Guest Service Supervisor Role 2

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the team at Ashburnham Place as a Guest Service Supervisor. Ashburnham Place has provided loving hospitality to thousands of guests for over 60 years. We seek to provide the warmest of welcomes and high levels of care to all our guests, creating an environment where people can relax, rest and be refreshed.

The role involves assisting the Guest Service Manager and supporting the guest service team to develop and deliver excellent service to our guests across the bedroom and food service functions, including in the Orangery Tea Room. This includes cleaning and preparation of our bedrooms, meeting rooms, public areas and dining rooms for the enjoyment of our guests.


We are looking for someone that has a passion to deliver the highest levels of customer service, has an attention for detail and a desire to lead and motivate a volunteer team whilst on duty.


The candidate will have some experience of customer service in the hospitality sector and be willing to learn about all elements of the position specific to Ashburnham Place.


The role is 40 hours per week and includes evenings and most weekends. Salary details available on request. This is a fixed term role for 24 months.

Sous Chef

Ashburnham Place is looking to appoint a positive and dynamic, experienced, and creative individual to join the kitchen team as Sous Chef.

The role involves supporting the Executive Chef and Head Chef to develop and deliver the food in both the main house and The Orangery. We are looking for someone that has a passion for working with food, particularly with an interest in locally sourced and seasonal ingredients and working with our kitchen garden team who grow especially for us.

A keen attention to detail and a desire to always be looking to improve your own knowledge and experience as well as helping to continually improve all aspects of the food offering at Ashburnham.

The candidate must be self-motivated and able to run the kitchen in the absence of the Executive or Head chef and adhere to and maintain Health and safety, EHO, and HACCP standards and procedures. The role requires the ability to work with and train a willing team of volunteers. This can be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but patience is key. A can-do attitude is essential.

The role is 40 hours per week with salary dependent on experience.
Weekend and evening work will be required.

Volunteers Working In The Garden

Grounds Volunteers

Would you enjoy working as part of team within the stunning grounds of Ashburnham Place?

We have volunteering opportunities to work within our Grounds Team.  This could be helping grow fruit and vegetables within the 4 acre Kitchen Garden or tending flower beds and mowing lawns within the extensive Ornamental Gardens.

Prior Gardening experience is preferable but not essential, as training will be provided.  We aren’t able to pay expenses, but we can provide morning coffee and a cooked lunch.

Office Reception Assistant Ashburnham

Volunteer Assistant to the Facility Director

A position has risen as Assistant to the Facility Director. Primarily the role would be support and administrative as well working with the Facility Director in the effective running of the Facility Department, within Ashburnham Place.

An interest in land, buildings and summer events would be desirable. Basic computer skills: emails, spreadsheets and good relational interpersonal skills are essential.

The role would suit someone on a career break or recently retired, working 3 days a week for an initial period of 6 months.

Man Working In The Garden

Food Forest Volunteer

Ashburnham Place (non-residential)

Over recent years we have planted and begun growing a ‘food forest’ in the Friar’s Field area of Ashburnham Place’s beautiful grounds.  This process is based on permaculture principles and designed to be a source of wild food for many years to come.  

We are looking for a local volunteer who is willing to come in at least one day (Fridays) each week to help care for and maintain the ‘food forest’ as we continue to develop this young but long-term project.  Tasks will include planting new trees and shrubs, maintaining the bracken clearance, checking for pest damage, watering young plants, helping on the straw bale ‘house’ building project, general monitoring of the food forest through the seasons….

As a volunteer at Ashburnham Place you will get all meals while volunteering, all tools needed to carrying out tasks, receive a discount in the Orangery Tea Room and to ACT events, be part of our international community and enjoy year-round access to our 220 acres of grounds and gardens.

We are looking for the following type of person:

  • Experience of outdoor work
  • Passionate about nature and the environment
  • Willing to work with and learn about perma-culture principles
  • A committed individual
  • Enjoys experiencing the seasons (and their weather!) first hand
  • Physically fit (Friar’s Field is steep!)
  • Understanding of the Trust’s Christian ethos
